My God is a generous God. He made an unfathomable universe and filled it with galaxies, stars and planets. On our planet there is a plethora of life. My God owns the cattle on a thousand hills. He creates generously. He extends grace generously. He loves generously.
Since I claim to live in him, I must reflect Him to the world. (1 John 2:6)
When I give of my finances I give thoughtfully – 2 Cor 9:7a ; joyfully – 2 Cor 9:7c ; regularly – 1 Cor 16:2; and proportionately – 2 Cor 8:12. When I give of my time I endeavour to give so much more.
I listen to people to honour them. I want them to know they matter. I need them to know their stories are not just important to them. These are the people who know me best. They make up my everyday world. I love them and want them to know they are part of my story and world.
So when I listen, it’s not to respond but to hear. When I listen, it’s not fix but to feel. When I listen it’s not to judge but to love. When I listen it’s to hear what’s not obvious. When I listen it’s to see what God appreciates. As I listen to them, I listen to our generous God rejoicing over them with singing and I join in with His song as I can.
1. Who was the last person I really listened to?
2. How can I be a better listener for my spouse, child and/or friend?
3. Who does God want me to bless today?

There is a difference between having a lot do and having an overwhelming sense of busyness. It’s the sense of feeling busy that can often disappear by letting God heal past shame in our lives. Doing a lot of good things can come from a strong Christian work ethic. We don’t want to live unexamined lives, so it’s good to think about why we do a lot of the things we do. But when we do all we do “as unto the Lord” – knowing it honours Him – we can get a lot done and not “feel busy”. All that’s to say, have a great Christmas season!
